Diego Costa took just 34 seconds to put Chelsea ahead when he raced clear of Phil Jagielka and collected a through ball from Cesc Fabregas and fired a shot through Tim Howard’s legs.

The visitors were 2-0 ahead after just three minutes when Branislav Ivanovic fired home although TV replays showed he was offside.
