Fashola employs 265 health tech graduates, appeals to striking doctors

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has appealed
to the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, to call of its
strike in the interest of patients in the various hospitals
begging for attention.

Speaking at the second convocation ceremony of the
Lagos State College of Health Technology in Yaba, Lagos,
Southwest, Nigeria on Thursday 3 July, the governor
disclosed that the state has employed 265 health
graduates.
He then appealed to all medical workers to desist from
using strike actions as a means of meeting their demand.
He said those that invented strikes in the country’s health
sector did it for the sake of their patients and not for
themselves, thereby asking the present crop of doctors to
emulate the past leaders.

Senegal prime minister sacked

Senegal’s Prime Minister Aminata Toure, who has only
been in power since September 2013, has been removed
from office less than a week after her ruling party was
beaten in local elections.
Toure “is no longer prime minister, she was sacked,” said
one of her advisors. According to another of her officials,
Toure was sacked by President Macky Sall who “asked her
to leave”.
The Senegalese Press Agency and national radio both
reported that Toure had left government.
Toure, head of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), was
named prime minister last year to replace incumbent
Abdoul Mbaye.
Her departure comes less than a week after preliminary
results from local elections showed defeats for the APR in
Dakar and a number of key cities across the country.
Official results are still being awaited.
Many members of the government who were running in
the local polls were beaten in their strongholds — a blow
for the APR who controlled only a few towns before the
election and were hoping to reinforce their local support
bases.
More than 5.3 million people were eligible to vote for
more than 2,700 councillors across the country.

2face Idibia made Red Cross ambassador

2face Idibia has collaborated with the Red Cross
Society of Nigeria in an effort to increase the
awareness of 2face Reach-Out Foundation initiative.

At a press conference, which took place on Friday, July 4,
2014, at Club Rumours, Ikeja, both platforms agreed to
promote peace and development in Nigeria through
advocacy, training and use of arts.
The Pop singer was also made a Red Cross ambassador.
Months earlier, he linked up with the likes of Sound
Sultan, Essence, rookie K-Slim to collaborate on the
official campaign song titled ‘MVP’.

Speaking on the partnership, the ‘Rainbow’ singer said,
‘I have worked on different music projects but the
experience we shared producing ‘Break the silence song’
is special for me and my friends. Without peace there
would be no 2face or any of us here today. We may
never know how many dreams have been aborted
because of conflict and other disasters, Peace gives us
everything‘.

Prominent faces who attended the conference include
Now Muzik boss, Efe Omorogbe, COSON boss Tony
Okoroji, singer Essence, and CEO Smooth Promotions,
Ayo Animashaun.

Busty Nollywood diva and singer, Cossy Orjiakor, who
has been having problems with some of the tenants living
in her property in Ilasa area of Lagos State, has stated
why she is having problems with some of them. Cossy
said many of the tenants are owing her rents running into
millions.

“ Can you Imagine, I am supposed to be collecting N2.6M
annually from my house, but up till now the tenants have
not paid up to one hundred thousand naira. They
complain they don’t have money but you see them using
their generators every day and night. Is it not money they
use to buy fuel for the generators?” she queried.

Cossy raised alarmed some weeks ago that one of the
tenants, who she alleged is a member of Black Axe
Confraternity, has threatened to deal with her if she
doesn’t withdraw the quit notice she served him months
ago.

“This dude threatens me. His rent is overdue, but he
doesn’t want to move. I was slapped by his group member
some days ago. But I can’t be intimidated. I can’t run
from my home because he is in Black Axe Confraternity.
Almost all the young boys here have been intimidated to
join this group,” she recently tweeted.
