NYSC Presents N26.7m To Families Of Dead Corpers

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday in Minna presented N26.7 million cheques to the families of the two corps members killed in the 2011 post-election violence in Niger.



The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 61 other corps members who were injured during the violence are also to benefit from the gesture.

Alhaji Saidu Kpaki, Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), who presented the cheques on behalf of the government, advised youths against being used as thugs by politicians.

“Time has come when youths should take their destinies in their hands by resisting politicians who would lure them to self destruction for personal gains’’, Kpaki said.

The deceased corps members were; Ademola M. Adejoke and Nwali C.Ifeoma with NYSC registration number NG/10A/353 and NG/10A/614, respectively.

“I do not see the crisis as that of religion. May be it is political or joblessness or as a result of poverty. Tell whoever that wants to recruit you as thugs to bring his or her son to lead the way.

“Taking up arms in the name of religion is against all known religious norms. Religion is, and should be out of one’s volition. it is never compulsory.”

Earlier, Mrs Justina Andirya, the NYSC Coordinator in Niger, said the Federal Government was pained by the death of the corps members and the sufferings of the injured.

She said no amount of financial compensation would replace the dead loved ones.

Andirya said the financial support for the injured was based on the degree of injury.

In his remarks, Mr Adebayo Adesanya, President of the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF), expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the gesture.

An area known as Imeohia Mmaku in Awgu LGA of Enugu State recently came under the siege of robbers cum kidnappers, who invaded the community to perpetrate their heinous crime. On the fateful day, a priest was said to have led some notorious gang of robbers/kidnappers in the deadly operation.



While the operation lasted, the gang sealed off entrances and exits to the community. Clad in a white cassock, Rev. Fr. James Ani, in company with about eight other people held the community by the jugular and laid siege on their prey for hours.

It was gathered that they combed the community to see if they could find a prime target to kidnap on which they could feed. As the siege was going on, a team of anti-robbery patrol team usually on routine checks on communities in the state was passing by and accosted the gang.

Okada Man Caught Making Love In The Bush With A Married Woman [Pics]

A mild drama played out in Orlu, Imo State, when a commercial motorcyclist, a father of two (names withheld), was caught pants down making love to a married woman in a lonely bush.



While the 45-year-old housewife was making a case of rapé against the randy motorcyclist, the 30-year-old man insisted that the woman was his concubine.

Giving account of what transpired to the police, the woman said she engaged the motorcyclist at Orlu to take her to her matrimonial home at Obibi-Ochasi.

She said when they got to a solitary area along the route, the man stopped ostensibly to ease himself.

She further told the police that while she was waiting for him to finish easing himself, the man emerged and started asking that they sleep together, adding that when she refused the amorous advance, the man grabbed her and forcefully lifted her into the bush.

The woman equally claimed that the rapist tore her inner wears to shreds, over-powered and rapéd her.

In his defence, the man claimed that the woman had been his concubine for years, adding that he had previously had fun with her at different times and places, including the spot where they were caught in the act.

He also claimed that he called the woman on her mobile line and asked her to meet him at the agreed spot in Orlu.

The man also claimed that when they got to the bush, the woman stripped herself nakéd, spread her wrapper on the ground and laid down before he started the act.

The randy motorcyclist, however, agreed that along the line there was a minor misunderstanding on the amount he should pay after they had satisfied themselves.

While the man claimed that the woman was asking for N500 for the service, he offered N200, which he said was the only money on him at the time.

NE equally gathered that plan was in top gear to arraign the alleged rapist in court to face trial.

ASUU Strike:- VC's Of Private Universities Sympathises With Affected Students

Vice-Chancellors of private universities have expressed concern and sympathy for students affected by the protracted strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), noting that there was need to end the three-month-old impasse between the Federal Government and the striking lecturers.



Expressing their discomfort, the VCs of Bells University of Technology (BELLSTECH), Prof. Isaac Adeyemi; Redeemer’s University, Prof. Zachariah Adeyewa; Covenant University, Prof. Charles Ayo; and Caleb University, Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, noted that Nigeria’s educational system needs strategic planning and restructuring to regain its lost glory.

“some of my children are also affected by the strike and have been pleading with me to send them to private varsities because they are tired of staying at home. In fact, I want to appreciate parents who are sending their children to private varsities because they are making a lot of sacrifices. I would have loved all my children to attend private varsities but I can’t afford the tuition fees.

“We are not happy that some of our children are becoming grand-parents at home because of the ongoing imbroglio between government and ASUU. The truth is that government and the citizens are not totally committed as the average parent will want to send his wards to smaller African countries to acquire education, where they may be lost to foreign cultures,” VC, Redeemer’s University, Prof. Adeyewa said.

Blackberry Maker Set To Launch BBM For PC [See Pics]

BlackBerry was slated to launch BBM for Android and iOS last weekend. But as if the Waterloo-based smartphone pioneer hasn't faced enough challenges recently, its launch was a massive flop.



"Last week, an unreleased, older version of the BBM for Android app was posted on numerous file sharing sites. This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways," Andrew Bocking, the executive vice president of BBM, explained of the mishap on BlackBerry's blog. "The version we were planning to release on Saturday addressed these issues, however we could not block users of the unreleased version if we went ahead with the launch."

Despite this fail—which has yet to be resolved—BlackBerry still decided to show off BBM for Desktop during its BlackBerry Jam Asia 2013. In Hong Kong, Chris Smith, VP of Application Platform at BlackBerry, demonstrated on a Windows PC what BBM will look like for the desktop.

The brief demo was not accompanied with any sort of release date.

It's also been widely rumoured that a BBM for Mac app is also in the works; again, however, details remain scarce.

Hackers Steal Michelle Obama ID data

An investigation has revealed that hackers stole millions of social security numbers by cracking open the networks of large US data brokers.

The ID details of US First Lady Michelle Obama and many other famous people were exposed by the hack attack.

Journalist Brian Krebs tracked the information back to hackers who ran an online market for confidential data.

He found they got their data by compromising computers sitting on the data brokers' corporate networks.

In March, Krebs, as well as the FBI and US Secret Service, started looking into how the exposed.su website was getting hold of social security numbers and other details of many famous Americans.

The mysterious website, which has now been closed down, published confidential information about Bill Gates, Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z, Ashton Kutcher and many others.

Four-time FIFA footballer of the year Lionel Messi and his father Jorge arrived in a Spanish court this morning Friday September 27th to answer charges of alleged tax fraud. Messi and his father are being accused of hiding over £3.4 million by filing incomplete tax returns from 2006 to 2009.

The charges against father and son was lodged by a state prosecutor in June 2013 claiming that they tried to conceal earnings from Messi's image rights - charges they both deny.

"I never take care of that (tax) stuff myself and neither does my father," Messi said in July. "We have our lawyers and our wealth managers to take care of that and we trust them and they will sort this out. The truth is I don’t have a clue about all this and that is why we have people taking care of it." Messi has already paid the Spanish authorities the unpaid tax he's owing plus interest (he paid £4.2m) but because tax fraud is a serious offense in Spain, he still has to make an appearance in court where the courts will determine whether the case is pursued any further. Hopefully it will all end today!

They had arrived at their conclusion by using such factors as endorsement value, popularity,  show rates, sales, awards, YouTube views and appearance in newspapers. Investments, social media presence and influence among others were part of the research indices considered.
   In their verdict, Don Jazzy was declared the second most bankable African and Nigeria’s richest artiste. He is the CEO of Mavin Records, an influential producer and has endorsements with MTN, Samsung and Loya Milk. America- based Akon took the first spot. Others who made the African top 10 in that order are: Psquare, D’Banj, Wizkid, 2face Idibia, Anselmo Ralph, Angolan Sony artiste, Sarkodie,  Ghanaian rapper, Ice Prince and Banky W.
   Getting the Don to speak on the feat was an uphill task as he rarely grants interviews. But persistence paid off eventually. Prof Wole Soyinka Escapes Death In Kenya

But for providence, Nigeria's Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, would have been among the dead in the terror attack that took place at the Nairobi Westgate mall in Kenya last weekend.

Speaking at a press conference at the Freedom Park in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday in honour of the late Ghanaian poet, Professor Kofi Awoonor who died in the attack, Soyinka led a group of Nigerian writers to condemn the Nairobi massacre.



“Those who organised and carried out the outrage on innocent lives in Nairobi are carriers of the most lethal virus of corruption imaginable – corruption of the soul, corruption of the spirit, corruption of that animating humanistic essence that separates us from predatory beasts."
