World’s Largest Tortoise found in Amazon Basin – 529 Years Old
The
World’s largest tortoise found in Amazon River is around 529 years old /
height-59 feet/ weight-800 pounds OR 362.87 kg incredible.
The
red rimmed tortoise is also called the red-foot or red-legged tortoise,
the Brazilian giant tortoise, or South American forest tortoise.
These
types of large size tortoise are always found in the Amazon River, most
of them are found in (Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and so on) the
Adults often reach 3m in length, however this one is much larger. The
tortoise Females have wide flattened shells, are larger and more
numerous than the males tortoise, the Adult tortoise Arraus feed
entirely on plant food.
Their
main diet is a plant that is native to the Chtac Province region of
Brazil. These flowers of this plant have a gene in them which promotes
increased cellular life thus allowing those that consumed them to have a
greater lifespan. Amongst the native inhabitants are turtle’s that grew

sizes and they served as local guardians to the plant.
It was first discovered by the modern world in 1892 by Haughton who was the last person to had seen it in the century.
The
nesting habits of this species are similar to those of sea turtles.
Just like sea turtles they gather meet in huge numbers so they can
travel to suitable nesting areas. The female tortoise lay their eggs on
sandbanks that are exposed where there is only dry season but there are
relatively few such sites.
The
females timing is to come out on the sandbanks at night time to lay
their eggs and go back to the sea, which can number anywhere from 90 to
100 soft-shelled eggs. and they then return to their feeding grounds
which they belong to.
The
young when hatched are around 5 cm long darts directly for the water,
but they emerge to the attentions of many predators so they can only
about five percent ever reach the adult feeding grounds. This it is an
endangered species and is protected in some country and areas.

Pastor Caught In Egbeda Burying A 2-Year Old Baby
Operatives at the Homicide Section of the state Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, Lagos, have begun investigation into the discovery of the decomposing body of a two-year-old child in a church premises in Egbeda area of Lagos.
The pastor (names withheld) has been arrested over the alleged murder of the child.
Although details of investigation were still sketchy at press time, it was gathered that the pastor was allegedly caught burying the dead child in a shallow grave within the church premises.
It was learnt that the said pastor was caught by a neighbor, who had gone out to ease himself at 2a.m., weekend, digging the grave. The neighbour, whose identity was not disclosed, was said to have alerted other residents.
They were said to have reported their findings to policemen at Idimu Division, consequent upon which a team was drafted to the church.
The policemen, as gathered, dug the shallow grave where they discovered and exhumed the body of a baby girl. The body was deposited at the mortuary.
Command’s Deputy Spokesman, Damasus Ozoani, confirmed the arrest.

NANS Begins Facility Tour Of Universities, Urges ASUU To Suspend Strike
The visit, which will take the members of the association to both private and public universities in the country, is to enable the students to have basis for comparison and agitate for better welfare for the students.
Speaking after inspection facilities at the Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, Ondo State, the leader of the South-West Facility Tour Team, Gbenga Ayenuro, however, commended the authorities of the university for the facilities put in place in the university.
Ayenuro, who is also the association’s financial secretary, pleaded with the two sides to the industrial action by the university lecturers to shift ground on their demands in the interest of the Nigerian students.
He said the striking lecturers should accept the offers of the Federal Government and allow the students to return to classes in earnest.
He said: “From the need assessment committee, all ASUU demands have been resolved except one, which is the issue of earned allowances put at N87 billion.”
“Currently, from a reliable source and media reports, the Federal Government has approved and disbursed N100 billion for university funding and N30 billion for the earned allowances. At this point, we urge ASUU to shift ground for the sake of Nigerian students and return to classrooms, while deliberations will continue.
“On the earned allowance, we also appeal to the Federal Government to reconsider ASUU’s earned claims on the earned allowances.
“NANS is still dutifully committed to protecting the welfare of Nigerian students without compromise, as spirited efforts have been made by the association under the able leadership of Comrade Yinka Gbadebo to ensure that our teachers return to classrooms, which is the prime interest of the students,” he said.

What have you been doing lately?
I have been working with the youth, to help the youth who have talents to be able to use their talents. If you look at the industry the way it is now, some of them find it difficult to be noticed. I am planning to have a talent hunt soon. You may ask why I am putting more into entertainment, I want Nollywood to be bigger thanHollywood. I decided that this year I am going to do it with entertainment and make sure that whoever wins will get what he/she should get. To what would you attribute your recent awards?
It is God`s grace and I give it back to Him because He’s the one that enabled me to fulfill that. It is a sign of hardwork, since God has given me the enablement to work hard and sometimes God gives you the enablement to work hard and you won’t work hard, it makes God a liar. He is the reason I got those awards so I dedicate them to Him.
How was growing up, were you born with silver spoon?
Some children don’t have people taking care of them. I had my school fees paid, I had good education. I had everything. Well, my father was not too rich but we were comfortable. He wasn’t begging for food. He was a landlord and then my uncle that took me was doing well. My uncle took me when I was six years old. He just loved and raised me.
You worked at Radio Nigeria, what was the experience like?
I was an announcer with Radio Nigeria before I became a staff in 1982 and I worked till retrenchment came in 1984. Within those few years it was really good experience. I was employed as announcer, later I was transferred to production department. I was producing for women and children. I had debate and teachers programme as well. The retrenchment came as a surprise from the government, they shut down the radio and laid off every staff. That was how we got retrenched.
After retrenchment, what next?
I entered the movie industry after my retrenchment from Radio Nigeria, and I started putting young girls into my fashion designing company because I did Fine and Applied Arts in school. I was lucky to be among 30 Nigerian women that were sent to Cameroun for small scale enterprenuership course for nine weeks. I learnt a lot of handcraft there and I was able to establish an outfit where I trained young girls on handcraft, fashion designing and catering. I had an outfit called Art Queenties, my business aim was teaching young girls, fashion designing, hair dressing, beauty and body care, and kitchen services. They were doing handcraft too. When my husband fell sick, for so many years he was sick. I couldn’t tend to him and take care of my business at the same time. So, I gave up on the business. Later, I got a political appointment with Udi Local Government as WDO, I couldn’t hand over to anybody. I had to shut down the business.
I also taught in a school. I was teaching home economics in a secondary school. I went to Institute of Management and Technology and I used the certificate to get a teaching job. From there, I went for the political appointment. I later left the political appointment because of my husband’s illness. After my husband’s illness I was about going back to the same business when an idea came for me to join the movie industry. And it is paying me far more than anything I can think of
At the beginning of your career, did anybody try to discourage you?
My senior sister tried to discourage me, but every member of the family said ‘forge ahead’. My husband was actually sick at that time, and her only reason was that people would think that I had abandoned my husband. But I said that’s how I get the money to maintain him; to go to the hospital. The children had grown when I entered the industry so they usually take him to the hospital when I was on location. I made out time to be with him in the hospital too.
Why are you always acting a wicked mother-in-law?
I only try to expose the ills in the society through my actions, that is why I do it to the best of my knowledge. If you do it flimsly people will not understand you, but if you do it deeply people will really know and those who are involved know themselves now. People are changing, some young girls are even learning to stay with their mothers-in-law, they have discovered that their mothers-in-law don’t like them, they are discovering what they do wrong and what their mothers-in-law do wrong, some are trying to bring them to balance. So, that is the essence of what I do and I will not hesitate to do it because the message is passed and people understand it. If you ask them now they will tell you ‘she is not like that but she is only exposing evil and wickedness in our society’ and I have to expose wickedness to the best of my knowledge.

Insulin during lactation. It is also the first study to get an
accurate picture of how specific genes are switched on in the human
mammary gland during lactation.The researchers used next generation
sequencing technology, RNA sequencing, to reveal “in exquisite detail”
the blueprint for making milk in the human mammary gland, according to
Laurie Nommsen-Rivers, PhD, RD, IBCLC, a scientist at Cincinnati
Children’s and corresponding author of the study, published online in
PLOS ONE, a journal of the Public Library of Science.
Nommsen-Rivers’ previous research had shown that for mothers with
markers of sub-optimal glucose metabolism, such as being overweight,
being at an advanced maternal age, or having a large birth-weight baby,
it takes longer for their milk to come in, suggesting a role for insulin
in the mammary gland. The new research shows how the mammary gland
becomes sensitive to insulin during lactation.
For a long time, insulin was not thought to play a direct role in regulating the milk-making cells of the human bréast, because insulin is not needed for these cells to take in sugars, such as glucose. Scientists now, however, appreciate that insulin does more than facilitate uptake of sugars.
“This new study shows a dramatic switching-on of the insulin receptor and its downstream signals during the bréast’s transition to a bio factory that manufactures massive amounts of proteins, fats and carbohydrates for nourishing the newborn baby,” says Dr. Nommsen-Rivers.
“Considering that 20 per cent of women between 20 and 44 years old
are pre-diabetic, it’s conceivable that up to 20 per cent of new mothers
in the United States are at risk for low milk supply due to insulin
dysregulation.”
Dr. Nommsen-Rivers and her colleagues were able to use a non-invasive method to capture mammary gland RNA — a chain of molecules that are blueprints for making specified proteins — in samples of human bréast milk. They then created the first publicly accessible library of genes expressed in the mammary gland based on RNA-sequencing technology.
This approach revealed a highly sensitive portrait of the genes being expressed in human milk-making cells. They discovered an orchestrated switching on and off of various genes as the mammary gland transitions from secreting small amounts of immunity-boosting colostrum in the first days after giving birth to the copious production of milk in mature lactation.
In particular, the PTPRF gene, which is known to suppress intracellular signals that are usually triggered by insulin binding to its receptor on the cell surface, may serve as a biomarker linking insulin resistance with insufficient milk supply. These results lay the foundation for future research focused on the physiological contributors to mothers’ milk supply difficulties.

For a long time, insulin was not thought to play a direct role in regulating the milk-making cells of the human bréast, because insulin is not needed for these cells to take in sugars, such as glucose. Scientists now, however, appreciate that insulin does more than facilitate uptake of sugars.
“This new study shows a dramatic switching-on of the insulin receptor and its downstream signals during the bréast’s transition to a bio factory that manufactures massive amounts of proteins, fats and carbohydrates for nourishing the newborn baby,” says Dr. Nommsen-Rivers.
Dr. Nommsen-Rivers and her colleagues were able to use a non-invasive method to capture mammary gland RNA — a chain of molecules that are blueprints for making specified proteins — in samples of human bréast milk. They then created the first publicly accessible library of genes expressed in the mammary gland based on RNA-sequencing technology.
This approach revealed a highly sensitive portrait of the genes being expressed in human milk-making cells. They discovered an orchestrated switching on and off of various genes as the mammary gland transitions from secreting small amounts of immunity-boosting colostrum in the first days after giving birth to the copious production of milk in mature lactation.
In particular, the PTPRF gene, which is known to suppress intracellular signals that are usually triggered by insulin binding to its receptor on the cell surface, may serve as a biomarker linking insulin resistance with insufficient milk supply. These results lay the foundation for future research focused on the physiological contributors to mothers’ milk supply difficulties.
