Late top music producer Harold Obiajulu Mordi a.k.a HCode, who died on Friday March 7th after suffering an asthma attack, will be laid to rest tomorrow Wednesday, March 19. 

Funeral service will hold at Lagoon Restaurant, Ozumba Mbadiwe, VI at 10:00 am and internment follows immediately at Victoria Courts Cemetry, Awoyaya after Mayfair Gardens in Lagos. May his soul continue to rest in peace, amen. Continue to read more about him...

Secondary School Fees To Be Abolished In Nigeria’s North

The Northern States Governors’ Forum has resolved to abolish payment of fees in secondary schools in the region in a bid to boost enrolment of students.
Its Chairman, Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger, made this known in Minna on Monday at the National Association of Nigerian Students’ (NANS) award ceremony to distinguished Nigerians.
The forum also agreed to harmonise fees in its tertiary institutions and reintroduce the “Grade 2 Teachers Training Programme’’, abolished in Nigeria to improve the standard of teaching in schools.
Represented by Dr Muhammad Nuhu, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Aliyu said that the forum also decided to close the educational gap between male and female students in the region.
Aliyu, who described education as the bedrock of any development, said they had also resolved to establish schools of preliminary studies to prepare students for admission into tertiary institutions.
He said an education conference aimed at addressing the problems associated with the development of education in the region, the problem of Almajiri and falling standard of education will be held soon.

US Navy Seals Take Control Of Libya Oil Ship

US Navy Seals boarded and took control of a North Korea-flagged tanker that had loaded crude oil at a port held by rebels in eastern Libya, the Pentagon says.
No one was hurt “when US forces, at the request of both the Libyan and Cypriot governments, boarded and took control of the commercial tanker Morning Glory, a stateless vessel seized earlier this month by three armed Libyans,” Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement.
The operation was approved by President Barack Obama and was conducted just after 0200 GMT (1300 AEDT) on Monday “in international waters southeast of Cyprus.”
The Morning Glory “is carrying a cargo of oil owned by the Libyan government’s National Oil Company. The ship and its cargo were illicitly obtained from the Libyan port of As-Sidra,” the statement read.

Boko Haram kills 2, burn churches in Borno

Members of the Boko Haram sect last night around 10pm attacked the Pela Birni village of Hawul LGA of Borno state, killing at least 2 people and burning down churches and houses. Reports say the men came into the Christian dominated village with AK 47 rifles and other powerful explosives which they used to shoot people indiscriminately and also set homes and churches ablaze. Amongst the churches destroyed was the Church of the Brethren.

Chairman of Hawul Local Government Area, Dr. Andrew Usman Malgwi confirmed the incident and said he has informed the higher authorities

"Yes there was an attack in one of my village yesterday which led to wanton killings and destruction of property. We have communicated to relevant security agencies on the matter who have swung into action with a view to apprehend the perpetrators, we have also mobilized our people to ascertain the damage and assist the displaced Persons as an interim measure” he said.

12 die while using local boat to cross to 6th Avenue Estate in Festac

Last week Tuesday March 11th, Twelve people unfortunately lost their lives while trying to cross a canal with a local boat to 6th Avenue Estate in Festac, which they say is the shortest (not the only) route to the estate. There was a 'Kpako' bridge there but when it got bad about 2 years ago, the local government didn't bother building another one, so commuters were forced to start using boats to cross the canal which usually takes less than four minutes and they pay N10 to cross.

Unfortunately that day the boat, with about 13 people on-board, capsized around 7pm and it took about two hours for rescuers to recover the bodies from the canal. 1 survived. The local government chairman came with an ambulance to convey the deceased to the morgue.

Today, some residents of the area took to the streets to protest the deaths as angry relatives and neighbours say the deceased have been abandoned in the morgue without care and that the govt has refused to allow relatives claim their loved ones. They are also asking for a new bridge to be built to avoid further deaths.

4.4 Magnitude Earthquake hits Los Angeles area

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake shook the Los Angeles area this morning Monday March 17th. The residents were still asleep when the earthquake happened.

A US Geological Survey spokeswoman, Dr Lucy Jones said it was the strongest earthquake in Los Angeles since the last aftershocks from the 1994 Northridge quake.

No casualties or destruction has been reported. Meanwhile Nicki Minaj who resides in the area where the earthquake happened said that the whole experience made her to re-evaluate her life.

Mick Jagger's designer girlfriend L'Wren Scott commits suicide

Rock star Mick Jagger's longtime designer girlfriend L'Wren Scott was found dead in her Manhattan apartment today Monday March 17th. The 49year old designer, who recently cancelled her fashion show in London, was found by her assistant hanging by a scarf around 10am in her luxury apartment.

The police do not think any foul play was involved though the Medical Examiner has not yet released the formal report. May her soul rest in peace...amen.
