[PHOTO] Female UNILAG Graduate, Chioma, Caught Leading Robbery Operation In Lagos

Cases of ladies leading deadly robbery gang is fast becoming a trend in Nigeria, with Lagos taking the lead. It seems prostitution is no longer paying some wayward ladies as much as they expect, hence the decision to take to the dangerous trade of armed robbery.
This is the case of Chioma Ezekwesiri, a Law graduate from the University of Lagos.
Chioma, who leads a 7-man robbery gang, was arrested with her gang members during an operation by SARS operatives after they received a distressed call from Bolatito Hotel in the Ijaiye area of Lagos.

According to police report, Chioma and her boys stormed the hotel after receiving tips that a customer who just sold 8 million naira worth of fertilizer was staying at the hotel.

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad team immediately surrounded the hotel and searched all its occupants. In the process, 2 guns and 12 live ammunition were found on the robbery suspects.

35yrs old Chioma and her gang members have been remanded in prison. The are: Amadi Igwe, 41;
Raymond Chukwuka, 24; Ignatius Okeredi, 27; Michael Madu, 52; Okechukwu Jerome, 2

Police Corporal Shoots ASP Dead In Station Over Woman Affair

When on April 6, 2013, Jane got married to ASP Olusoji Elegbede in Lagos State, their joy knew no bounds. Although Olusoji was a policeman serving in Yobe State, which is fraught with security challenges, Jane did not mind living there with her husband.

Their plan was to settle down, have kids and grow old together. But unfortunately, this was not to be as Olusoji was gunned down by his junior officer, a serving police corporal in Gashua Bade Local Government, Yobe State, while on duty less than five months after their wedding.

Olusoji’s widow, who spoke while fighting back tears, told PUNCH's Eniola Akinkuotu that she was still in shock over the incident.

Narrating what led to her 39-year-old husband’s killing, Jane said her husband, who was the Administration Officer at Gashua Police Division, was killed by a 53-year-old corporal, Andrew Bitus.

She said, “The station is situated in a barracks and we all live in the barracks. The corporal (Bitus), was dating an elderly woman and they had a quarrel. Bitus wanted to part ways with the woman, so he told her to refund the money he had spent on her but the woman refused.

“The corporal dragged the woman to the station but the Divisional Police Officer intervened, saying it was a civil case and told the corporal to take the matter to the court.

“The DPO travelled some days later, on August 30, 2013 to be precise. The corporal arrested the woman again.

“My husband, who was the most senior officer in the station at the time, reiterated what the DPO said and ordered the corporal to let the woman go.

“The corporal, instead, started harassing the woman at the station. My husband then told other policemen at the station to register a case against the corporal for his behaviour.”

Jane said the corporal became infuriated and insulted her husband who was over 10 years younger than him.

She said in the ensuing argument, the corporal brought out his rifle and shot the deceased many times.

She said, “I was in my house when I heard gunshots. Initially I thought it was Boko Haram members that were attacking the station. It was a few minutes later that someone informed me that my husband had been shot.

“When I got to the station, I was told by policemen that the corporal brought out his gun and shot my husband in front of the counter. My husband was said to have fled, but the corporal chased him and rained bullets on him. I met my husband in a pool of blood.

“When I asked why they could not stop the trigger-happy policeman, they told me that they had to run for cover for fear of being hit by the bullets.”

PUNCH learnt that Olusoji was rushed to the General Hospital, Gashua, and was taken to the theatre where a surgery was done to remove the bullets from his body.

“The doctors told me that he survived and was going to be taken to the Federal Medical Centre, however, they later opened up to me that he died during the surgery,” she said.

Jane insisted that the corporal must be brought to book, adding that her husband was not involved in any love affair with the woman who was at the centre of the feud.

The killer policeman had been dismissed and was being detained at the State CID. The unidentified woman, who was being harassed by the corporal, had also been arrested.

A cousin of the deceased, Kunle Bajela, said apart from getting justice for their son, the family want his widow to be well taken care of by the police authorities.

“My cousin died in active service and we want to ensure that those who depended on him for their upkeep are not neglected by the police,” he said.

Asari Blasts Jonathan: You're Weak & A Disgrace To The Ijaws

The leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo, once again took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, stating that the Nigerian leader is a disappointment to the Ijaw ethnic nationality and the South-South in general.

“Jonathan should hit them and he should tell us if he cannot hit them so that we can help him to hit them mercilessly. I have the potential to hit them hard. It is on record that I once held Nigeria hostage and Nigeria could not produce oil for 48 hours and my activities forced the prices of crude oil globally to rise by $30 one day. It was unprecedented and I can repeat it.
Insisting that Jonathan is too weak and unassertive as a leader, Asari said:
It is regrettable that Jonathan could not act like a typical Ijaw man, who is famous for boldness and exceptional courage. He said the President should be guided by an Ijaw famous saying, “Ama Doko Doko Biokpo,” which he interpreted to mean “small, small towns but they are very courageous and keep hope alive.”

The ex-militant commander, who was reacting to the latest crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which has led to the factionalisation of the ruling party, lamented that Jonathan could not take bold and courageous steps to tame the dissidents.

Asari-Dokubo said he was unimpressed by what he called "poor response” to the crisis rocking the PDP by the Presidency and advised Jonathan to emulate former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who confronted and dealt with the dissidents in the party during his tenure.

He recalled how Obasanjo wielded power to quench the insurgency led by ex-Governor, James Ibori, within the PDP, against his re-election in 2003.

To this end, he asked Jonathan to stop further peace talks and negotiation with the dissident governors and their collaborators, including Obasanjo and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

He said Jonathan only needed to sit up and demonstrate uncommon courage to subdue his political enemies, adding that the crisis was orchestrated to frustrate his second term ambition.

Asari-Dokubo decried the recent statement credited to Abubakar Gumi that the killings in the North would stop as soon as Jonathan renounced his second term bid, adding that the cleric and his co-travellers were cashing in on the weakness of the President.

He said: “Jonathan is disgracing the Ijaw people and people of the South-South by negotiating with these dissidents. I am terribly annoyed by the way he is handling this issue, he is a disgrace. If he cannot withstand them he should tell us because there is no basis for negotiation.

“This is the time for Jonathan to act like an Ijaw man and he should stop disgracing us.

“The plot against Jonathan will surely fail but the President should be decisive with these people once and for all. Jonathan should assert himself as President and put these people where they should be. Obasanjo, who is leading these people, did two terms and he plotted a third term.

“There should be no negotiation with dissidents. It should be total war, no retreat, no surrender and let us see who will run first. There is time for peace and there is time for war. This is the time to go into war. Jonathan should know that this is the time for war and if he cannot sustain the war, we will help him to sustain it."

BBM For iPhone Still Awaiting Approval From Apple

While there is a rumor in the air that BlackBerry would be releasing BBM for Android and iPhone for September 21st,
some situations may delay the release of
BBM for iPhone by one or two weeks after it gets released to Android device users.

BlackBerry submitted BBM for iPhone to Apple two weeks ago but its still awaiting
App Store approval according to Alex Kinsella, Senior Strategic Account Manager
at BlackBerry seen from his tweet below.

Usually, the average approval time for most apps submitted to App Store is about 4 days according to Shiny Development tracker.

Consequently, this delay of BBM for iPhone by Apple raises a little concern, one that needs to be quickly addressed so that Apple fans can get BBM on their devices just like their Android counterpart.

LG Official, UNIZIK Lecturer In N8m Contract Scam

The Director of a construction firm, Chrisbech Nigeria Limited, Mr. Dominic Emeka Okika, has accused officials of Awka North local government area of Anambra State of defrauding him of N1.5 million, which was the balance of an executed N8 million contract. The state government had, through the local council, awarded his firm contract for construction of a mini bridge/double cell culvert at Ugbenu for N8 million, and was paid N3.6 million mobilization fee. Okika alleged that during the first instalmental payment of the contract sum, the local government town planning engineer/ head of department of works gave him a voucher of N6 million to sign, released only N3.6 million to him and then took N2.4 million, with an explanation that N1 million would be given to the state commissioner for local government. He also said the council official spoke of sharing the remaining N1.4 million among himself, his staff and traditional ruler of Ugbenu, a community in the local government area. He alleged further that midway into the job, the local government authorities did a variation which led to the increase of the contract sum from N8 million to N9.5 million, which did not reflect his own contract. Okika said he was compelled to sign the variation, alleging further that although he was given the N.5 million he signed for, the payment was N1.5 million short of the amount due him. Addressing newsmen yesterday in Onitsha, Okika, in company of his counsel, Obiora Muojeke, complained that he decided not to object to all the deductions and variations made by the local government because he was hoping to get more contracts from them should he execute that one successfully. He said his main concern now was how to pay the labourers and artisans as well as dealers who supplied materials for the project, stressing they had been piling pressures on him daily to pay them their money. Okika said the only way he could pay his creditors was to have his N1.5 million balance paid by the local government authorities. On the reason for holding on to the N1.5 million by the LG, he said the town engineer directed him to a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, to sort out their differences as it was the lecturer who pleaded with them not to release the money. He, however, admitted that the said lecturer introduced him to the state government for contract awards and agreed that he (lecturer) would have a share of any contract awarded to the company. But Okika insisted that this particular contract was not awarded directly to his company by the state government but to the local government whose officials took a large chunk of the contract sum. Okika also admitted that he promised to give the lecturer N1 million for this contract, payable in four instalments of N250,000 each but lamented that out of impatience, the lecturer, suspecting that he would no longer give him anything, wrote a petition to the State Security Services, SSS, accusing him of plotting to kidnap him. He said based on the lecturer’s petition to the SSS, he was arrested and taken to the state SSS headquarters, Awka, where he was brutalized and injured, adding that he was equally forced to write two post-dated cheques of N2 million and N1.5 million respectively in the name of the lecturer’s wife before the SSS could release him on bail. He said the two United Bank for Africa, UBA, cheques which he wrote under duress at the SSS detention room, were dated August 30, 2013 and November 30, 2013, respectively, though his counsel wrote to the bank asking it not to honour the cheques. In his reaction, the State Director of SSS, Mr. Alex Okiyi, who confirmed the arrest of Okika to newsmen in his office, said they were investigating a case of attempted kidnap reported against him by the lecturer in Psychology Department of UNIZIK, Awka. When newsmen contacted the lecturer on phone to hear his own version of the story, he asked how journalists got his phone number and switched off immediately. Chairman of Awka North local government transition committee, Mrs. Joy Onweluzor, and the town planning engineer, Mr. E. O. Okoro, declined comments when contacted on phone. However, the state Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo, confirmed that a contract was awarded to a contractor and executed in line with Governor Peter Obi’s transformation agenda, but claimed not to know what transpired among the contractor, the lecturer and the local government officials. She, however, promised to step into the matter should it linger. The Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof. Boniface Egboka, told newsmen in a telephone chat that he had never received any petition from the contractor to that effect.

ASUU Strike: Female Students Forced Into Prostitution In Kaduna

While it can be agreed that the seemingly unending Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike is beginning to take a toll on students, the fact that female students in Kaduna are now resorting to prostitution is becoming a source of worry. Other student sex workers were also seen around Gwari avenue road, Barnawa and other hotels in the state capital where they meet their patrons. According to reports, one of the sex workers revealed that she was in the business to enable her meet her needs till the strike is called off. Another lady who claimed to be a final year student of one of the federal universities hailed ASUU for the strike. According to her, “The strike, though will delay my graduation, is helping me gather funds for my upkeep when the strike is finally suspended.” Another female undergraduate said, “we contribute money to pay for hotel rooms and we sometimes hire the rooms for several weeks to do business. “Most of us do not have anybody that will take care of us and we even have our younger ones to cater for. So we have to do this business anytime we are on strike or holiday to survive.” Asked when she intends to stop the business, she said, “anytime the strike is suspended, I will go back to school. But, I hope to stop this business as soon as I get a job after graduation.”

The Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) , Okitipupa, said on Thursday that it had arrested a candidate for impersonation at its 2013/2014 computer-based Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Prof. Amos Akinwande, the institution’s Director of Academic Planning said Okitipupa that the suspect had been handed over to the police. ``The security operatives arrested him because his document and passport photograph did not correspond with what we have on our website and he has been handed over to the police,” he said. Students Threaten To Shut Private Varsities Over ASUU Strike

UNIVERSITY students under the umbrella of National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, yesterday, took to the streets in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, calling on the Federal Government to accede to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. They equally threatened to shut down activities in the private universities in the country should the crisis linger on. The students who displayed several placards with various inscriptions, lambasted the Federal Government for its failure to honour the agreement it entered into with ASUU since 2009. Protest: Polytechnic students protesting against ongoing nationwide strike, on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, yesterday. Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Asafon Sunday, Director of Action and Mobilization NANS, South–West, claimed between 2000 and 2011 the Nigerian government earned about N48.48 trillion from the sale of oil alone, against N3.10 trillion earned between 1979 and 1999 He said the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, in 2012 financial year alone generated N5.12 trillion from tax paid by the masses. According to him: “With this tremendous upswing in the revenue at the disposal of the Nigerian government, one would have expected such to translate to commensurate improvement in the quality of Nigeria’s public education as well as other social services.” He condemned the refusal of Federal Government to budget a reasonable amount of money to education sector as recommended by UNESCO which is 26 per cent of the country’s total budget. Sunday noted that some countries with smaller Gross Domestic Product, GDP, like Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Morocco and Botswana had budgetary allocations to education sector as follow, 31 per cent,20 per cent,23 per cent ,17.7 per cent and 19 per cent respectively to 8.5 per cent that Nigeria government had budgeted for education in 2013. Also speaking, Steven Adara ,a student leader from Ekiti State University, EKSU , lamented that government officials and prominent Nigerians were not bothered about the crisis in the public universities because their children were in private schools overseas. According to him: “We will mobilize and disrupt academic activities in the private universities because it is the sons and daughters of the rich that are in these schools.”

file: boko haram attackAt least 20 people were feared dead, while several others sustained injuries, yesterday, when suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched separate attacks on Gajiram, the council headquarters of Nganzai and Bulabulin Ngawra Village of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Two primary schools, a clinic and some residential houses were also set ablaze during the attacks.
Nganzai is about 73 kilometres, while Bullabulin Ngawra is 45 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the state capital. Both councils are linked and share borders with the terrorist’s camps of Marte and Sambiza Forests said to have been destroyed by JTF at the peak of the emergency rule and the military onslaught of Boko Haram terrorists in the state since June this year.
Although, the actual number of casualties could not be officially ascertained at press time, our Correspondent gathered that some terror suspects numbering more than 40 fully armed with Ak47 rifles laid ambush on Gajiram town on Thursday morning where they killed 15 residents and set some public and residential buildings ablaze. Thereafter, they were repelled by the combined efforts of the vigilante youths and men of the Joint Task Force, JTF.
It was also gathered that the State Attorney-General, Mr. Kaka Shehu Lawan later went to Gajiram to condole with the residents. He was said to have gone in company of the chairman of the local government council and some senior police officers.
Similarly, on the Maiduguri- Dambao-Biu road which was reopened two weeks ago after its closure by the JTF, Boko Haram suspects were said to have mounted roadblocks few metres away from Bullabulin Ngawra village where they shot and killed five people
An eye witness, Aisami Babagana from Bulabilin Ngawra told our Correspondent that, “the Boko Haram sect members attacked Bullabulin Ngawra in the early hours of today (Thursday) and killed five people. I believe that they attacked us because of how our volunteers have succeeded in curtailing their atrocities in our area”.
Some residents of Maiduguri who did not want their names mentioned in print for security reasons told our Correspondent that “We saw two Hilux patrol vehicles of the JTF conveying dead bodies and the injured heading towards University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, but we could not ascertain whether they were victims of the latest attack in Nganzai or Bullabulin Ngawra.”
Meanwhile, in their renewed efforts to put an end to Boko Haram insurgency in the state, members of the state’s Vigilante Youths also being addressed as ‘Civilian JTF or Yangora’ and men of Joint Task Force, JTF; Wednesday arrested 14 terror suspects with arms and ammunition in Bulunkutu ward, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, premises and Sulimanti ward of Maiduguri metropolis.
The arrested terror suspects at the hospital, according to sources, yesterday, in Maiduguri, sneaked into the hospital through the perimeter fence, before the youths sighted them with rifles and ammunition at about 10.35am on Wednesday.
Those who were arrested in Bulunkutu area of the metropolis, according to one of the vigilante youths, were “Boko Haram informants” from Northern Borno and Yobe state, who came to Maiduguri on Tuesday to collate more information on the activities of JTF and vigilance youths patrolling Bulunkutu and Gomari Airport wards of Maiduguri.
Speaking on how the terror suspects beat UMTH security on Tuesday, a source at the hospital said: “The suspects disguised as wounded and sick persons with rifles hidden under their flowing gowns, and perforated the barbed wires; before gaining entry into the hospital premises to seek medical attention. The vigilance youths, were able to sight the suspects; and arrested them on the spot, before handing them to us here.”
He said the youths also recovered from the suspects rifles and ammunition, including charms worn round their waists and arms. The suspects were also said to have wounds suspected to be from gunshots they sustained either at Bama or Monguno last week during encounters with JTF.
Speaking on the incidents, the JTF spokesman, Lt. Colonel Sagir Musa, told journalists in Maiduguri that he was not aware of the incidents, but promised to send press release on the development after compiling his report. [Vanguard]

Wow!!! Bishop T.D Jakes Receives Anointing And 1 Million Dollars from Tyler Perry

It is unbelievable what God can do sometimes especially in his House. Popular man of God, Bsp. T.D Jakes was a happy recipient of double blessings in his own church- The Potter’s House. Actor/producer Tyler Perry laid his hands on him and began speaking in tongues! How interesting!

It so happened that the “Why did I get married” producer was in Dallas last Sunday (September 1, 2013) for the 2013 MegaFest hosted by the Bishop himself. During the service, Perry woke up, took the mic and said the Lord had spoken to him to give out! “God I don’t know what you’re doing but I heard your voice.” Next, the sound of a million dollars was heard loud and clear!

The crowd jumped to their feet, shouting and praising God. Perry continued, “When you hear the voice of God you move. Don’t worry about what nobody says to you. Don’t worry about what it looks like. Don’t worry about your enemy. Don’t worry about your hater. He’ll bless you. He’ll lift you…”

Slowly, the ‘semi-preacher-man’ began moving around speaking on the blessings of God and how Christians are so concerned with what people say than being happy and worshiping God. “Sometimes you spend too much time worrying about your haters. You spend too much time worrying about people talking about you. But what you need to understand is that the Bible says in order for you to be blessed; your haters have to be present. The book of Psalms says he prepareth a table for me in the presence of my enemies. So in order for me to eat, they have to be present.”

Perry prayed deeper and went in front of the Bishop. He reached out his hands and laid them on the Bishop’s forehead speaking in another language all together. There are claims that the man of God began shaking and as it looked, received powerful anointing from God the Father through the “Madea” actor.

The Bishop later tweeted how unbelievable that incident was but of course, it truly happened. Lucky him; anointing + 1 million dollars all in one day? You are blessed Pastor!
