House of Rep member calls for evacuation of Nigerians in SA

The Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, has called on the Federal government to initiate moves to evacuate Nigerians in South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Ukeje said;

“The Federal Government of Nigeria should rise up to the occasion by having contingency plans to evacuate Nigerians within 24 hours to avoid us losing our citizens to these attacks. It is expedient to think of where all Nigerians can gather within 24 hours for safety either in our embassy or mission for the safety of our citizens,” she said.

Also speaking, chairperson of the House committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa condemned the attacks and said the House of Representative members will move a motion in its next plenary session to discuss the attacks

INEC Fixes New Date For Rescheduled Election In Rivers

The Independent National Elector@l Commission (INEC) has rescheduled elections for April 18, Saturday in Rivers state.

The rescheduled election is for areas in the state where voting did not take place on 11th of April, last Saturday’s elections due to some circumstances.
This announcement by the Rivers State Resident Elector@l Commissioner, Gesila Khan, was contained in a statement distributed through SMS by the Information Officer of INEC in Rivers State, Daily Post reports.
According to the Resident Elector@l Commissioner, the elections will hold in all the wards in Emohua Local Government Area, It will also hold in wards 1, 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.
He mentioned other wards to include; 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12e and 13 in Ahoada-East Constituency One; as well as wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Ahoada-East Constituency Two.

47-year-old suspected child kidnapper Nurudeen Badmus has been apprehended after he tried to kidnap four girls between 9-16 years, from their village in Abudu community, Iyana Ilogbo, Ado-Odo Ota in Ogun State on Monday April 13th.
