So because prolific writer Chimamanda Adichie asked to be addressed as a Ms and not a Mrs, some people are assuming she's separated from her US-based husband, Dr. Ivara Esega?

In an interview with Sun Newspaper on Saturday March 1, Ms Adichie told the interviewer who addressed her as Mrs Chimamanda Adichie, to simply call her Chimamanda Adichie.

“Before we start (the interview), please, I just want to say that my name is Chimamanda Adichie. That’s how I want it; that’s how I’m addressed, and it is not Mrs but Miss. Ms: that’s how I want it. I am saying this, because I just got a mail from my manager this morning. It seems that there are people who attended the church service, and they wrote about it, addressing me as Mrs. Chimamanda (Esega). I didn’t like that at all. So my name is Chimamanda Adichie, full stop!”

Over 200 people have been killed in the last two weeks in some troubled northern states by Boko Haram insurgents. Another 35 was added to that list after gunmen carrying AK47 rifles, Rocket Propelled Launchers, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs, invaded Jakana village in Konduga LGA, Borno State around 7pm yesterday Monday March 3rd.

They slaughtered residents of the community and set their homes ablaze in a raid that lasted for hours. They also burnt down shops and a police station along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

The attack in Jakana comes barely 12 hours after gunmen killed over 36 people including 3 soldiers in the Mafa Council area of the state.

There are things that need to be sorted, relocation needs to be sorted. So, we are taking our time with it. But then again, by virtue of my job, I have a pretty much very flexible timing. I own my time, I decide when to work, when not to work. So, really, I can be with my wife anytime, every time I so desire and it makes it easy. If I work 9-5, then we will always have to wait for when someone was on leave the whole year round, if I want, just to be with my wife.

Liverpool's owner admits Luis Suárez did have £40m release clause – reports

The Liverpool owner John Henry has reportedly admitted that Luis Suárez did have a £40m buyout clause but that the club simply refused to sell the player when Arsenal made their £40m plus one pound offer last summer.
At the time Liverpool were adamant that the Gunners' bid would not trigger the release of their striker, but Henry, speaking at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, appears to have suggested that the Reds simply took a hard line because "apparently these contracts don't seem to hold".
"Luis Suarez is the top scorer in the English Premier League, which is arguably the top soccer league in the world," Henry is reported to have said. "He had a buyout clause of £40m. Arsenal, one of our prime rivals, offered £40m plus £1. What we've found … is that contracts don't seem to mean a lot in England – actually, in world football.

Arjen Robben scored a hat trick as Bayern Munich beat Schalke 5-1 to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 20 points. The result compounded a miserable week for Schalke, who lost 6-1 at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Sir Alex Ferguson says that David Moyes just needs time at Manchester United and has backed his successor to succeed in the job.
Under Moyes United, champions last year in Ferguson's final season at Old Trafford, are 18 points off top spot in the Premier League, 12 points off fourth and 2-0 down to Olympiakos following the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
It has been a difficult start for the former Everton manager but Ferguson believes Moyes will eventually be a success.

Armed robbers invade Vine Branch Church in Ibadan during service

A gang of seven armed robbers today Sunday March
2 invaded The Vine Branch Church in Yemetu,
Ibadan, Oyo state.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbery gang stormed
the church around 12noon while the service was
going on and after offering and tithes had been
collected. The robbers told the congregation to lie on
the floor and robbed in an operation that lasted 15
minutes. They took away Tithes/Offering, phones and
other items.

The resident Pastor, Sola Kolade confirmed the
incident and said some members sustained injuries.
A member of the church who witnessed the incident
said a police officer was killed in the operation but I
can't confirm that...

Ladies who go about servicing different men all in the name of "runs" really need to be careful as we now live in dangerous times, where things happen so fast and before you know what's happening to you it could be too late for your health, or worst still, your life.

ASUU to clash with Fashola over School fees

President of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities, Dr. Nasir Fagge, has said that the
union will resist the rise in tuition fee at the Lagos
State University.

He added that the establishment of universities by
the government should be for knowledge
acquisition rather than for profit making.

While speaking at a symposium organised by the
Education Rights Campaign group held at the
University of Ibadan, Fagge said the hike in tuition
fee would not take care of infrastructural demands
in LASU but would deny children of the poor
masses access to public education.

He said, Universities are not commercial centres
for internally generated revenues but knowledge
production centres. The new fee introduced by the
school would have come earlier than now but it was
halted by the intervention of ASUU through a
delegation led by Dr.
Dipo Fashina.

Against the backdrop of terrorist attacks in Nigeria,
the Federal Government is said to have granted a visa
for entry into the country to a controversial cleric
who is said to be a preacher of terror.
Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips is said to have been
banned from several countries, including Australia,
Germany, United Kingdom, United States of America
and Kenya for his open support of and advocacy for
terrorism.

The government through the Minister of Interior,
Abba Moro, explained the visa grant by stating that
Philips had met all the requirements necessary and as
such could not be denied a visa.
The Telegraph reports:
Philips who lives in Qatar has been issued a
Nigerian Visa to visit and preach in the Country.

Reports had it that the cleric celebrated his Visa
issuance with his followers on his facebook on
Sunday morning, saying,
Al hamdu lillaah. I just
got a visa for Nigeria and will be going there in a
few days, in shaa allaah. So, I hope to see all my
Nigerian brothers and sisters. Baarakallaahu
feekum
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Minister of
Interior noted that every country has its own
requirement for the grant visa and in Nigerias
situation especially against the back drop of our
security challenges, we also have our requirement
for granting of visas.

According to a Forbes magazine list released yesterday Monday March 3rd, Nigerian industrialist, Aliko Dangote is the 23rd richest man in the world. Wow! He made history as the first black man to break into the rank of top 25 richest people in the world.

In 2012, he was the 76th richest man in the world. He moved from that to 43rd richest man in 2013 and now to 23rd in 2014 with his wealth jumping from $16.1billion to $25billion.

The next Nigerian on the list is Glo chief Mike Adenuga, who is 325th richest person with $4.6bn. Then Mrs Folorunsho Alakija in 687th position with a personal wealth of $1.2bn.

Former Microsoft chairman Bill Gates takes back the No.1 position as the richest man in the world with $76billion. Geez! If you lived ten life times, you probably won't be able to finish $76b.

Italy Will Introduce Google Tax

The local Parliament has recently passed a new measure on Internet advertising dubbed “Google tax”. The latter will require Italian companies to purchase their web adverts only from Italian companies, instead of from those with headquarters in tax heavens like Ireland, Luxembourg and Bermuda.

Some may believe that it’s a good way to curb the tax avoiding antics of giants like Google and Apple, who claim they are based in Ireland and Luxembourg, but it is actually more about protecting Berlusconi’s media empire from online intrusion.

Iranian hackers have seriously damaged the US Navy. Back in September 2013, the US Navy’s largest unclassified computer network was cracked by someone believed to be working for Iranian government or acting with its approval.

In September there were no other details revealed, but the whole affair looked like a simple hack to revenge all Stuxnet stuff that the United States and Israel did to the country’s nuclear plant. Today US officials claim that the network infiltration appeared to be far more extensive than previously admitted. Moreover, it lasted much longer.

Media reports confirm that it took the United States 4 months after initial news of the hack emerged in the end of September to purge the hackers from the network. The Iranian intruders hit the Navy Marine Corps intranet via some security vulnerability in one of the Navy’s public-facing sites. The US officials revealed that although the intruders made no headway into classified networks, they seemed to be everywhere in the network.

It is known that it took a coordinated plan to push the hackers out, and the government even had to hire cyberwarriors and contractors to do the job. Overall, the cost to repair the network, according to a senior defense official, was $10 million. In addition, the bill can rise when a few other invoices are paid.

NEW YORK: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has regained the title of the world's richest man in the Forbes magazine's annual billionaire list that includes 56 India based billionaires led by RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

Gates is back at the top spot after a four-year hiatus, reclaiming the title of world's richest person from Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu, who had ranked number 1 for the previous four years.

Gates, whose fortune rose by USD 9 billion in the past year top spot for 15 of the past 20 years.

"After years focused on his philanthropy, Gates plans to spend more of his time working with product managers at Microsoft as rivals like Google and Apple continue to outshine the company in the market," Forbes said.With a networth of USD 18.6 billion, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chief Mukesh Ambani leads the pack of 56 billionaires based in India featured on the list.

His younger brother Anil Ambani is ranked 281st on the list with a net worth of USD 5 billion.

However, Forbes said the richest Indian person has seen "precipitous decline" in his fortune since 2008 when his networth was USD 43 billion and he when was the world's fifth richest person.

"Regardless he remains India's richest person and is still bullish; says he plans to invest USD 25 billion in his businesses over the next 2 years," Forbes said.

Members of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) are now to carry out an oath exercise denouncing any trace or affiliation for homosexuality before they can take up any leadership position in the church. The church which has over the years held strong opposition against homosexuality included this oath taking into its constitution recently.

The Islamic sect men struck again yesterday March 2nd in Borno state in Mafa Local Government area, a border community between chad and cameroon, killing scores of people.

According to residents in the area, the men came into Mafa town using Hilux Toyota vans armed with AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices ( IED’s ), Rocket Propelled Launchers, petrol bombs and opened fire on residents who were asleep, which led to at least 33 people being killed, with several injured, and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The gunmen are reported to have had a field day in Mafa having overpowered the military personnel stationed in the Village.

The Borno state Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko, has confirmed the incident but says he has no exact number of casualties. More than 200 people have died in the siege the sect men have laid in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states in the past one week.
