1: DISCOVER WHAT WORKS FOR YOU
Pain has a lot to do with the mind. Ladies seem to have different ways of reducing pain…and each of these unique ways could work wonders! Discover and embrace what works for you—provided it is not harmful. Know yourself!
2: DO SOME EXERCISE
Stretching, walking, or any exercise (in general) has been proven to reduce pain. Exercises make the body produce some powerful chemicals in the body called endorphins—endogenous morphines—that ”kill” pain! Try curling into a ball! Breathing deeply, from the tummy (see it rise and fall), is very helpful for relaxation! Do something…move!
3: USE HOT PADS ON TUMMY
Hot water bottles, heating pads, or even compress with towel soaked in warm water on the tummy (especially below the navel) could be very helpful. Be careful not to burn yourself! Also try a warm bath and hot tea. It works like magic for some ladies!
4:ENJOY SOME MASSAGE
Rubbing, squeezing, and pressing the tummy, the lower parts of the back, and the waist works for most ladies, especially if the pain isn’t the very severe type. Try this out!
5: TAKE SOME PAIN-KILLERS
Some simple pain-relieving drugs (like Ibuprofen and diclofenac) could be gotten from reliable pharmacy as over-the-counter drugs. These are especially helpful when you start taking them before the pains start, say 3 days before onset on menses and menstrual cramps. Make sure you eat before taking these drugs—taking them into empty stomachs could cause sypmtoms of “ulcer”. Some people say they find Multivitamins helpful too—but, I don’t know why o!
6: CHOOSE TO FEEL GOOD
After all is said and done, we can choose our feelings. Try your hobbies, lie down under a revolving fan, watch movies, read a book, try drawing, play some music, sing, dance, go out for a walk! Do anything that will distract you and make you feel good. Or, have a good sleep! Good luck experimenting!
7: GO SEE A DOCTOR
Menstrual pains could get severe, and out of hand! I have few patients that I have to admit in order to treat their menstrual cramps—nothing short of admission and some doses of heavy pain drugs will help them! You may have to see a medical doctor as the pain may be due to other causes. Also, there are advanced ways of handling pains.
