Not content with its square faced Galaxy Gear Live smartwatch, Samsung has announced the Gear S which can work standalone and also when mounted with a device. The device features 2-inch curved display, runs on Samsung’s Tizen OS, 3G support, ability to make calls and connect to the internet.

The idea with most smartwatches or wearables is to at least sync with smartphones to display notifications on your wrist, control music playback on your phone as well as a hots of other functions. But the Gear S is different as it can either work when connected with a smartphone or standalone; the device also make calls and connect to the internet without using your phone’s connection – all this is able due to its inbuilt SIM feature.
Moving to the specs, The Samsung Gear S features a 2-inch (360 x 480 pixels) Super AMOLED display, powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM. Also on the device is a 4GB internal storage and IP67 certification (dust resistant and waterproof) and a 300mAh battery which provides two days of battery life. more below....

Connectivity options on the device includes 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 2G, 3G. Sensor options includes Health, Heart Rate sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Ambient Light, UV and Barometer. The Gear S runs on Tizen based OS for wearbles and features weather, news, navigation, calendar apps, music player, photo gallery, and voice controls.

Along with the Samsung Gear S, the Samsung Gear Circle was also announced a Bluetooth Stereo Headset that lets you listen to music, receive calls and send voice commands. The Gear Circle headset features Bluetooth 3.0 with apt-X, Magnetic Sensor (Hall IC), Touch Sensor, Multi Point connection. A 180mAh Li-ion powers the devices which provides about 300h Standby time, up to 11h of Talk time and up to 9h of audio playback.
Both the Samsung Gear S and the Gear Circle would be available globally in October.
