The announcement was made at a press conference in Durban byAlex Okosi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Viacom International Media Networks; It’s the first time the event will be holding since 2010.
There will be up to 13 categories of awards up for grabs including Best Male, Best Female and Best New Act.
The award ceremony will be preceded by three ‘concerts in Durban, Lagos, and Nairobi, building up to the main show.
The concerts, which will take place in April and May 2014, will feature MAMA nominees alongside other local artistes and DJs. MAMA, which debuted in Abuja in 2008, has a rich roll-call of past winners, including D’banj, P-Square, Nameless, Lira, Fally Ipupa, 2Face Idibia and Cabo Snoop.
The awards held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2009, and Lagos, Nigeria in 2010.
