16.10 KB
The long wait is over. The list of the 50
best players from the past season will be
revealed at 1430CET on Monday,
followed
by lots of reaction, interviews and
analysis
After weeks of anticipation, the day of
the
2014 Goal 50 has finally arrived.
Our prestigious, annual list ranking the
50
greatest players from the past season will
be revealed on Goal at 1430CET on
Monday.
Frontrunners for the prize include
reigning champion Lionel Messi, two-
time
winner Cristiano Ronaldo, Germany
World
Cup hero Thomas Muller and
Netherlands
wizard Arjen Robben.
The announcement of the list on
Monday
will be followed by plenty of reaction,
celebration and analysis.
We have exclusives with a whole host of
players who were selected in the 2014
Goal 50, including the winner himself,
as
well as interviews with many former
stars
such as Fabio Cannavaro, Franz
Beckenbauer, Diego Simeone,
Alessandro
Nesta, Michael Owen, Gaizka Mendieta
and Robert Prosinecki.
We have produced a number of videos –
including special documentaries on five
footballing superstars.
We have feature analysis from some of
Goal’s best writers. We celebrate the
winner and the dominant clubs and
leagues, but also look at those who
disappointed. We analyse why one of
the
world’s biggest footballing powers failed
to even have one player in the Goal 50.
We also look ahead to the 2015 Goal 50
and predict what could happen during
the next year.
This is just a fraction of the great Goal 50
content that we will bring you this week.
Voted for by editors from Goal’s 35
editions representing more than 600
journalists, the Goal 50 provides an
unparalleled insight into the highest
achievers in all positions and across all
continents, and unearths many of the
future stars of the game.
Graham Shaw, Goal’s Editorial Director,
said: "Goal 50 gives a truly global view
on
the players who have lit up an epic
season. The World Cup in Brazil was a
fitting finale to a sensational campaign,
and added fuel to the debate raging
about
who should top this year’s list."
Messi, after last year's triumph, said:
"I'm
very excited about this. As players, we
work the entire year to win honours for
the team, we don't look for the
individual
awards, but when they come it's an
incentive and gives us strength to
continue on the same path."
HAVE YOUR SAY
Who do you believe should win the 2014 goal50?
