The African football legends have described as phenomenal the performance of the Super Eagles goalkeeper at the ongoing 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil
Former Nigeria captain Austin Okocha has heaped praises on Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama for his brave showing against Argentina on Wednesday night.
Lionel Messi’s brace inspired Alejandro Sabella’s men to a 3-2 victory over the Super Eagles but the Lille of France player posted a five-star performance to keep the scoreline respectable.
According to Okocha who captained Nigeria to the 2002 edition of the World Cup co-hosted by Korea/Japan, Enyeama is Nigeria’s man of the competition while insisting his former national teammate deserves more accolades.
“He (Enyeama) has been our man of the tournament . Not only that, in the past few years too,” Okocha said on SuperSport.
“I was fortunate to be in the team when he made his debut in 2002 in japan and I think he has gone on from that baby to become a very good goalkeeper.
“ Good to see him perform not in this tournament alone but week in week out for his clubside.
“I think he deserves more credit than he is given,” he concluded
In the same vein , the Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya feels Nigeria’s qualification for the second round was a result of his heroics and will sell himself to bigger clubs if he posts another commanding performance against France on Monday.
“He is a great goalkeeper no doubt and he is the main reason why Nigeria is moving to the second round,” said Kalusha
“Looking at the first game, he was absolutely magnificent same as the second game.
“Now that the Eagles have reached the knock-out phase, it’s a good platform for Enyeama to market himself,” concluded the Zambia football legend.
