President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Thursday in Abuja urged world leaders and international institutions to give their fullest possible support to the incoming Administration of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. President Jonathan also called on all Nigerians to do their utmost best to help the incoming President succeed in leading the country to greater heights of accomplishment.

The Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, has called on the Federal government to initiate moves to evacuate Nigerians in South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Ukeje said;

“The Federal Government of Nigeria should rise up to the occasion by having contingency plans to evacuate Nigerians within 24 hours to avoid us losing our citizens to these attacks. It is expedient to think of where all Nigerians can gather within 24 hours for safety either in our embassy or mission for the safety of our citizens,” she said.

Also speaking, chairperson of the House committee on Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa condemned the attacks and said the House of Representative members will move a motion in its next plenary session to discuss the attacks

INEC Fixes New Date For Rescheduled Election In Rivers

The Independent National Elector@l Commission (INEC) has rescheduled elections for April 18, Saturday in Rivers state.

The rescheduled election is for areas in the state where voting did not take place on 11th of April, last Saturday’s elections due to some circumstances.
This announcement by the Rivers State Resident Elector@l Commissioner, Gesila Khan, was contained in a statement distributed through SMS by the Information Officer of INEC in Rivers State, Daily Post reports.
According to the Resident Elector@l Commissioner, the elections will hold in all the wards in Emohua Local Government Area, It will also hold in wards 1, 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.
He mentioned other wards to include; 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, 12e and 13 in Ahoada-East Constituency One; as well as wards 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in Ahoada-East Constituency Two.

47-year-old suspected child kidnapper Nurudeen Badmus has been apprehended after he tried to kidnap four girls between 9-16 years, from their village in Abudu community, Iyana Ilogbo, Ado-Odo Ota in Ogun State on Monday April 13th.

According to PM News, Badmus was apprehended after an acquaintance of one of the girls asked him where he was taking them to. Unable to give a concrete answer, the person raised an alarm and he was immediately arrested and taken to the palace of the local Chief (Baale) in the community.

A father-of-two whose heart stopped following a ma$$ive heart attack came ‘back from the dead’ after doctors put him in an ice bath, Ankara, Turkey.
Doctors failed to restart Bulent Sonmez ‘heart when he collapsed shortly after being admitted to hospital with a ma$$ive heart attack. But in a last attempt to get his heart beating again, medics used a thera.peutic hypothermia treatment to lower his body temperature to limit the effects of a lack of oxygen on the organs.

Once Bulent’s heart had been started again doctors spent around 24 hours maintaining his heart rate and returning his body temperature to normal. But the joy of his family was short-lived as it emerged the 40-year-old could only remember around half his life and had no recollection of his wife and children.
His wife Sibel Sonmez, 39, told local media: “It was like a movie, I didn’t know how to explain the two children we had waiting at home. I tried to resolve it by showing him photographs, but it took a very long time to be able to convince him.”

A Federal High Court in Abuja has vacated the order restraining ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo from publishing, printing or offering for sale, his controversial autobiography titled “My Watch.” which had been in the custody of the Nigerian Customs Service since 2014 following a N20billion libel lawsuit by PDP chieftain, Buruji Kashamu, asking the court to stop the distribution of the book because of some things Obasanjo wrote about him in the book. In the book, Obasanjo described Buruji as a fugitive wanted in the US. A court, last year, ordered security and law enforcement agencies including ‎customs to confiscate the book anywhere they saw the book.
