2face Idibia's Ascension album reviewed by former TV personality and host of Nigeria's first ever music video countdown, Emmanuel Ugolee. Read below...

I was going to take my time and digest "The Ascension" but then the news that the 2 week (or so) old album had broken an African billboard record would not let me. I was in a mad hurry to see what content had pulled that feat.

Just before I took to dissecting, I cautioned myself about:

a) Comparing the album to the prevalent sound of buzzing music today since I had immense disregard for the yardstick of its acceptance (melody and lyrics alike) and ...

b) Making comparison with the "face 2 face" album as every great act gets to deal with the curse of an early great outing in his career. Micheal Jackson chased "Thriller" with every effort till he died. He never touched it for many, if not all of us. Seems same for 9ice, Snoop Doggy Dog, Asa, Bobby Brown, MajekFasheketc

So the basis for judgment fair and square had to be : How much of the man we love, could i feel in this album? Did he "fall" the proverbial hand? Would I find home grown and universal appeal worthy of Africa's biggest act of this generation? Can I relate to the sense or nonsense he made? Would I be proud to be a fan when I am done?

Now that my head was clear on the basis for a standard analysis, it was time to press play on track 1

Tonto Dikeh and Toyin Lawani come for each other...

It looks like former friends actress Tonto Dikeh and fashion stylist Toyin Lawani are no longer in good terms and they have taken to social media to subtly come at each other.

So here's what happened. Two weeks ago Tonto Dikeh posted a throwback photo of herself dressed in a sequin gold dress and gave styling credit to her stylist and friend, Swanky Jerry Ogbodo. Toyin Lawani saw that particular post yesterday and got mad because according to her, she was the one who styled Tonto and not Swanky. Toyin said she did the styling for a Complete fashion party a few years ago and even shared a pic of herself and Tonto in the gold dress.

When Toyin Lawani threatened to sue anyone who takes credit for her work, Tonto posted a pic on her instagram page with the message..'Do I look like I care?". Trust Tonto, she had a lot more to say. Continue...

Ebola: Experimental drug developed by Nigerian arrives Nigeria today

An experimental drug developed by a Nigerian in diaspora for the treatment of Ebola is expected to arrive the country today, the Minister for Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said.

 

The drug, called “Nanosilver”, has been approved for use by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an experimental treatment ethical in the case of the Ebola epidemic. The Federal Govt yesterday approved the use of experimental drugs in the treatment of the deadly virus.

Another nurse, 35year old Justina Obi Ejelonu, (pictured above) who attended to late Liberian Patrick Sawyer while he was ill at the First Consultant hospital in Lagos, has died.

According to Sahara reporters, her relatives called to inform them of her demise in the early hours of today. Ms. Ejelonu had been kept in a quarantine facility in Lagos and was very vocal in the campaign for the release of the ZMapp experimental drug to Nigerian Ebola disease patients. 

Justina was quarantined at the B Ward, a male ward which is now referred to as the Ebola Ward of the Yaba Mainland General Hospital. May her soul rest in peace..amen.

Aliko Dangote donates N150million to fight Ebola in Nigeria

Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote has donated N150million to help in the fight of the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Adhiambo Odaga announced this at a media briefing at the Ministry of Health, Abuja on Monday. She said the money will be available for the establishment of an Ebola emergency operation centre in Lagos.

“After bilateral discussion with the honourable minister and his team, Dangote foundation has funded the establishment of the Ebola emergency operation in Lagos, that is being done through grant from the foundation of just a little over N150 million,” she said. Continue...

'About 2 a.m. Friday morning, Jon Koppenhaver arrived unannounced to my home in Las Vegas, NV, after he broke up with me in May he moved out of my house and back to San Diego. When he arrived, he found myself and one other fully clothed and unarmed in the house. Without a single word spoken, he began beating my friend; once he was finished, he sent my friend away and turned his attention to me.

'He made me undress and shower in front of him, then dragged me out and beat my face. I  have no recollection of how many times I was hit, I just know my injuries that resulted from my beating. My injuries include 18 broken bones around my eyes, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken.

'I also attained several lesions from a knife he got from my kitchen. He pushed the knife into me in some areas such as my hand, ear, and head. He also sawed much of my hair off with this dull knife.' she wrote. Continue...

Son of American Ebola patient says she's 'smiling, even joking’

The American woman who was infected with the Ebola virus while working with a Christian aid group in Liberia is getting better and is even smiling, her son said today.

Speaking with NBC's Today Show, Jeremy Writebol said his mother, Nancy Writebol, 60, who was evacuated from Monrovia last week and was wheeled on a stretcher into a special isolation unit at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, has gotten physically better

"When she came in on Tuesday last week, we were really concerned that she wasn't going to make it. To see her wheeled out of the ambulance and in, I was on the floor sobbing."

"We've seen her get physically better, her eyes brighten up, smiling, even joking a little bit" he said.

Autopsy results is out. Robin Williams hanged himself with a belt

The autopsy report of legendary actor Robin Williams is out - he committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt in his home. But before using the belt, Robin had tried to kill himself by slitting his wrist with a pocket knife. When that suicide attempt failed, he used a belt.

According to the Marin County Deputy Coroner, Robins Williams was at home alone Monday when he tried slashing his left wrist, but it only left "acute superficial cuts. He then took a belt, tied it around his neck and secured it between the closet door and door frame. Williams was in a seated position, slightly suspended with his right shoulder against the door. " TMZ reports. He didn't leave a suicide note...

The Coroner said Robin's personal assistant discovered his body hours later. The legendary actor had been battling depression for a while and even went to a Minnesota rehab facility just last month.

8 year old Nigerian boy comes 2nd in UK Child Genius competition

8 year old Tudor Mendel-Idowu and his sister 11 year old Hazelle Mendel-Idowu (pictured above) were the only Nigerians to take part in the Child Genius of the Year 2014 in the UK. 

The competition consists of 20 highly gifted youngsters between 7-12 who face two grueling rounds: Logic and Reasoning and Memory Recall - where they have just one hour to commit 104 randomly shuffled playing cards to memory. 

Hazel Mendel-Idowu was out of the competition in the second round but Tudor Mendel-Idowu scaled through to the final stage on Sunday August 10th and made it up to 2nd position.

11 year old Sharon from Bolton won the competition. Tudor Mendel-Idowu is the son of Pastor and Mrs Tolu Mendel-Idowu from Nigeria. Congrats to him...

Another man dies of Ebola in Nigeria

Nigeria has recorded another death from the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus. This time it is a staff of the Lagos Liason office of the Economic Community of West African State - ECOWAS headquarters, Mr Jatto Abdulqudir. Confirming his death in a statement, ECOWAS management said the 36 year old man was among those who assisted the late Liberian Patrick Sawyerr when he came to Lagos for a regional meeting and was quarantined after Sawyerr died of the deadly disease. This brings to three the number of deaths from the deadly virus in Nigeria. The first two being Sawyerr and a Nigerian nurse.

Is this the biggest baby bump ever? Woman had 55-inch tummy

It hasn't been confirmed but there's currently no woman on record in the UK who has had a 55-inch baby bump. 29 year Lara Carpenter-Beck, gained so much weight as her pregnancy progressed that she couldn't even fit into normal maternity wear.

The first time mum gained weight at a rapid rate during her pregnancy because she has diabetes.

Actor Robin Williams dies at 63; suspected of committing suicide

Legendary Hollywood actor and comedian Robin Williams has died at age 63. He was found dead today Monday August 11th in his home in Tiburon California.
