Update on Nyanya school attack: Police say it was a robbery case

According to statement on the Facebook page of the Nigerian Police force, the early morning attack on Vine International school was a robbery attack and not an attack by Boko Haram.

The offer from President Barack Obama which was conveyed to President Jonathan by the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry in a telephone conversation which began at 15.30 Hours today, includes the deployment of U.S. security personnel and assets to work with their Nigerian counterparts in the search and rescue operation. Presidential Media Chat: Some of the things our president said tonight

The 7th edition of the Presidential Media Chat has come to an end. A burning issue discussed is the missing school girls. President Jonathan said wherever the girls are, the military would get them. He said security personnel are working round the clock to rescue the girls and also pleaded with parents and guardians of the missing girls to cooperate with them to get the girls freed. He said no negotiation has taken place because no one or group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

On reports of them being married off, the president said "To who?". He said the Principal of the school told him that 53 of the girls have escaped from the kidnappers.

On people comparing the Niger Delta militants with Boko Haram men, he said the BH men are faceless and so makes it difficult to even have discussions with them. He said he first met Niger Delta warlords like Asari Dokubo in the state house in a meeting called by former Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo and the militant leaders were there to lay down their grieviances. He said Boko Haram men are terrorists as their ideology is different from that of the Niger Delta militants as those ones do not go about bombing market places and killing people. He said a lot more. Nigerian Reggae legend Majek Fashek was a guest on Rubbin Minds today and he addressed a few issues. When host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu asked him if the tales of him using drugs is true and is responsible for his career nosedive, Majek said he never did drugs, that what happened to him is what Africans called home trouble

"I never did drugs. My life was just affected by home trouble" he said.

He also said his problem is spiritual. Majek said he's currently working on an album which would be released sometime in June

Asari Dokubo Dares Boko Haram Commander, Shekau

Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, has dared Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, to be prepared to meet him on the battle field.

Asari, who dismissed the threats by Shekau against President Goodluck Jonathan, warned that 2015 election in Nigeria would be “more than do-or-die.”

Can you describe the attack on your school?

Sawok: We were in the hostel. One of the men dressed in military camouflage asked us where our dining hall was. From our hostels, they took us to the dining hall and from there, we were moved into the waiting vehicles and they headed towards Damboa town. The incident happened around 11pm.

Walse: It is a long story. They came to our school and deceived us into believing they were soldiers. They were dressed in military uniform and made us believe they were about rescuing us only for us to later find out that they were insurgents. Oloruntobi Dare, a Nigerian student of Hubert Flowers High School is among the 1000 beneficiaries to win the coveted Bill Gates Millenium scholarship worth $350,000. Oluwatobi who is a naturalized American has shown a consistent display of talent and brains since her pre-school in the USA.

Aside from winning the Gates scholarship, she has won other awards including, Most Outstanding Science Student, Hubert Flowers High School, Maryland; Winner, Prince George’s Community Church’s 8th Annual African American History Essay Contest; 3rd place winner, Maryland Coalition for Gifted and Talented Education Essay Contest 2014; and Maryland Representative at the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary Pearl Harbor Day Parade. Mariah Carey has announced a new album, titled Me. I Am Mariah, which will debut May 27. The 44-year-old singer shared the artwork for her 14th studio album via Twitter as well as a video announcement explaining the inspiration for her latest musical effort.

"On the back cover of this album is a personal treasure," she says. "This is my first and only self-portrait. I drew it when I was three and a half and entitled it 'Me I am Mariah.' Please don't judge me for such a simplistic title. C'mon I was only three and a half, it was a creative visualization of how I saw myself with the purity of a child's heart before it was ever broken."
