NABTEB Sanctions 5,108 Candidates For Exam Fraud

The authorities of National Business and Technical ExaminationsBoard (NABTEB) on Tuesday disclosed that 5,108 candidates who sat for the 2013 May/June National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations were sanctioned over different cases of malpractice. Registrar/Chief Executive ofthe Board, Olatunde Aworanti, who disclosed thiswhile announcing the results, called on the National and State Assemblies to initiate laws that will ensure the implementation of the establishment of modern andwell equipped technical colleges in all the Local Government Areas in the country, with a view to boost technical education. Aworanti said 106,573 candidates enrolled for the 2013 May/June examination nationwide, but 103,753 candidates sat for the examination. He added that out of the 103,753, “28,230, representing 27.2 per cent, obtained credit passes in five subjects and above, including Mathematics and English Language. According to him, “55,115 candidates representing 53.1 per cent, obtained five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics. Candidatesenrolled in 36 trades, five trade related subjects and eight General Education subjects. The examination has the highest entry in Book Keeping with a total of 78,897”. The Registrar, who commended the Federal Government’s effort to strengthen technical education, asserted that technological advancement and sustainable development largely depends on the attention given to technical and vocational education by stakeholders. He recommended that in order to elevate the nation in technological advancement, more collaborative partnership between public and private sectors should be employed in funding technical and vocational education. “In addition, the National Vocational Qualification Framework should also be implemented as approved, while proprietors of private technical and vocational institutions should endeavour to improve on their workshop facilities by furnishing their colleges withlatest technologies”, he further suggested.

JAF Denies ASUU Participation In Protest To Save Education

JOINT Action Front, JAF, yesterday, debunked reports in a section of the media that members of the Academic Staff Union ofUniversities, ASUU Cross River State, participated in Wednesday’s protest to save public education in Nigeria. JAF said the reports were not only mischievous, but Federal Government-sponsored. A statement by JAF Secretary, Comrade AbiodunAremu, insisted that ASUU neither organised the ongoing nationwide protest that started in Lagos nor participated in the Calabar protest, arguing that there was no ASUU banner or leaflets at the protest march. The statement read in part: “There was no ASUU banneror leaflets at the protest march. The JAF’s banner was the main protest march banner and was complemented by the banners of Nigerian Students’ Rights Movement, NSRM, and Education Rights Campaign, ERC. “The over 20,000 leaflets circulated throughout the protest march was mainly authored by the JAF. “JAF leadership represented by one of its principal officer – Comrade Abiodun Aremu, Secretary ofJAF, was clearly in the leadership of the protest from the beginning when he declared it opened at the Freedom (Botanical Garden) Park at about 9.35a.m. to hisclosing remarks at about 3p.m. “Comrade Aremu addressed the rallies at all the major points and his statements were communicated in Efik language to the people.” Mr. Oku Ita spoke in Efik at the Calabar Watt market andat Etim Edem Central Park, with traders and transporters coming around for leaflets and declaring their support for the protest.

JAMB Concludes First Round Of 2013/2014 Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has concluded the first round of admissions into degree awarding institutions. A statement from the board on Thursday said the board was determined to ensure compliance with 2013/2014 admission calendar. ``Candidates who made degree awarding institutionsas their first choices or most preferred are enjoinedto check the board’s Website and print their admission letters,’’ the statement said. It said the admissions were done from Aug. 20 to Aug. 23at a technical committee meeting on admissions into degree awarding institutionsfor 2013/2014 academic session in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. Signed by the board’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Fabian Benjamin, it said 109 degree awarding institutionsattended the meeting while only 76 of them submitted lists of admitted candidates to the board. According to the statement, the second round of admissions will be conductedfrom Sept. 23 to Sept. 27 at Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, for admissions into polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and innovative enterprises institutions. It further said that all admissions into the nation’s tertiary institutions were expected to close by October, stressing that the admissions were in compliance with the approved criteria.

French To Be Part of UTME From 2014 – Minister

Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’I,said on Thursday in Abuja that French language would be partof the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination as from 2014 for interested candidates, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. Rufa’I said this at a reception held in honour of the French Language ProjectManager, Mr. Jean-Phillipe Roy. She said that being multi-lingual in the 21st Century was essential as it helps individuals to operate more effectively in the international community. “For Nigeria, the study of French language is quite key, considering the fact that our neighboring countries are French-speaking. Apart from the English language, French language is one of the majorinternational languages,” she said. She said Roy came to Nigeria in 2009 under the second Bilateral Agreement between Nigeria and French. The minister noted that the French had worked hard to ensure that various components of the project received due attention. Rufa’i lauded his contributions to the reform of the UTME for 2014 in addition to the scholarships awarded to 16 teachers of French language to study in France for one month. She said the project manager’s contributions included supply of books to schools, award of Master’s degree in French as a foreign language and supplyof DVD and CD player to the project office. The minister lauded the support of the French Government to the Nigerian French Language Village, Badagry, Lagos; and the Regional Network of French Language centres in Africa. She also commended the Association of French Language Teachers, and noted the proposed handingover of the project vehicle to the ministry for the monitoring of the teaching and learning of the language. “Nigeria and France have come a long way in their relationship. It is a relationship built on mutual respect, cooperation and interest. I wish to assure you that the ministry will continue to be committed to the teaching and learning of French Language in Nigeria and sustenance of the cordial relationship,’’ she said. Roy praised the collaboration between the Federal Government and theFrench Government. “Since I have been here, you have shown a lot of interest in what we have been trying to do in terms ofdecision-making in critical issues and, with your help, we have been able to keep the project on the right track,” he said.

NDU Wilberforce: 1st/Merit Admission List Now Out On JAMB Website for 2013

2013/2014 Merit admission list of the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island has been released for on JAMB website. Although this list is not on the university website yet, candidates who participated in the various entry exams can now check their admission status on JAMB website. FUTA Fix September 6, 2013 As Acceptance Fee Payment Deadline For Freshers

This is to inform all candidates who made The Federal University of Technology, Akure their Most Preferred Institution and obtained a minimum of 200 in the Unified Tertiary matriculation Examination (UTME) plus a minimum scoreof 50 in the Post-UTME Screening Exercise of the University, that the list of candidates offered provisional admissions into various undergraduate programmes in the University for 2013/2014 Academic Session has been uploaded on the University’s website. All affected candidates are requested to visit the website to ascertain their admission status using theirUTME Registration Numbers. Successful candidates are advised to pay their Acceptance Fees on or before Friday, 6th September, 2013. Strike - NANS, NUSA Appeal to ASUU to Accept FG's Offer

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Nigerian University Students' Association (NUSA)in Zone "C" has appealed with the Academic Staff Unionof Universities (ASUU) to accept the offer made by the Federal Government to them. In a joint statement signed by Speaker of NUSA, Comrade Shu'aibu Mohammedand the NANS coordinator Zone C, Comrade Adio Fridayafter a protest match in Lafia, Nasarawa State, urged ASUU to accept the offer made by the government and return to classroom while negotiation continues saying that it would be for the interest of the students. The student's organisations said they implore ASUU to device a means of resolving their demands with the government rather than embarking on a nationwide strike that is more detrimental to the students who are at the receiving end. According to the statement, they appealed to the government to consolidate on the progress made saying that government shouldn't have waited until the strike degenerated to this extent.

Prospective students who took part in the 2013/2014 post UTME screening exercise of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT can now check their admission status online. The school registry board had, recently released the admission list on the school website to allow students check their status stress-free. To access your admission status, visit ESUT Portal Here. It is not enough to see admission status on ESUT website, make sure your admission has been approved by JAMB and request for admission letter immediately.

JAMB, the official body charged with the responsibility of registering,organizing and administering unified entrance examinations to applicants for admission into tertiary schools in Nigeria today August 29th, 2013 released admission status check for prospect students who did excellently well in the 2013 UTME nationwide.
